There aren’t many people that can’t resist the temptation for a bowl of popcorn and although it has been a popular snack at the cinema, it is now a trendy snack to know how to make and snack on whilst watching Netflix or with a few drinks at a social. The problem is do you like, sweet or salty. Hands up for the mad mix of sweet and salty. If you like spicy, salty and sweet then you will love our recipe for both! Oh and they are healthy apart from the butter but a little is perfectly fine!
- ½ cup of Popcorn Kernals (or buy ready made ones – unflavoured)
- 3 tablespoons of Oil
- 2 tablespoon Butter
- 1 teaspoon Nico’s Polle Polle Spice Mix
- 3 tablespoon Sugar
- 1 teaspoon water
For perfectly cooked pop corn, there are two ways… or stove top or the cheats way, buy a bag of popcorn. If done correctly, popcorn is so easy to make and much healthier than the microwave version which is full of nasty chemicals. In a heavy based pan, with a lid, heat the oil in the pan, and coat the base of the pan. Add in a couple of kernels, once these have popped the oil is hot enough for you to add the rest of the popcorn but remember to remove these before adding the rest of the kernels. Add the lid and over a medium heat give the pan a gentle shake until the popping slows down to every 1-2 seconds. Transfer to two bowls, one for the savoury and one for the sweet.
In a pan melt the 1 tablespoon of butter and add in the Nico’s Polle Polle spice mix then spoon in over the popcorn. Add gradually and mix or shake, so that the popcorn doesn’t get soggy.
In clean pan, add a teaspoon of water and the sugar and dissolve on a low heat. Add in the remaining butter and add gradually to the popcorn, shake or stir to coat evenly. Some pieces might be stuck together as it dries so
If you can mix them both together you have sweet and savoury or keep them separate to keep everyone happy! Feel free to skip the sweet if you prefer and add shavings of Parmesan cheese for added flavour. Enjoy the low(ish) calorie, gluten-free snack!
